Enjoy 3 full days of family fun and learn all about this Maya treat from the chocolate experts at ChocoSol. You might even get to taste some of their home-made creations. Watch a screening of The Chocolate Farmer, dig for Maya treasure, have fun making Maya crafts, and get your photo taken with our Maya High Priest!

ChocoSol Workshops

Learn the history of chocolate and corn tortillas and then let the experts from ChocoSol guide you through a fun and interactive workshop to make your own chocolate drink and corn tortilla.

The Chocolate Farmer
Set in an unspoiled corner of southern Belize, where cacao farmer Eladio Pop works his plantation in the tradition of his Mayan ancestors. A tender and moving tale, this lush cinematic journey captures a year in the life of the Pop family as they struggle to preserve their values in a dramatically changing world.

The Cacao Pod - Maya Money Does Grow on Trees 

Did you know that the Maya actually used the cacao bean as currency? Find out everything you ever wanted to know about cacao, from its botany to its importance in the ancient Maya civilization.

MAYA CRAFTS

There is a legend amongst the Highland Indian villages of Guatemala: "If you have a problem, then share it with a worry doll. Before going to bed, tell one worry to each doll, then place them beneath your pillow. While you sleep, the dolls will take your worries away!"

Young visitors can make their own worry dolls as well as a cacao pod necklace.

BUILD A MAYA PYRAMID

The Egyptians weren't the only people to build great pyramids. Learn how the Maya did it!

Maya Archaeological Dig

Dig into the past like a real archaeologist and discovery buried Maya treasure including cups specially made for drinking chocolate.

MEET A MAYA HIGH PRIEST

Down from the temple and out of the jungle into the ROM strides a mysterious Maya High Priest. Get your photo taken with the most respected member of the Maya community and maybe he will even let you take a peek at some of his ceremonial items.

The Chocolate Story

Take a break in our story corner where you will hear how the Maya got the very first chocolate tree and other tales of chocolatey goodness!

ROM SCVNGR HUNT

If you have an ipod or android phone join us in our very first ROM SCVNGR Hunt! Based on the exploits of Burton and Isabelle Pipistrelle, complete four challenges to be eligible for the grand prize. The hunt starts at 1 PM at the Chocolate Story Corner with a reading of the ROM children's book Burton & Isabelle Pipistrelle: Out of the Bat Cave. Make sure you've completed all four challenges by 4 PM. Happy Hunting!
